Angela wrote to Tameside Council to call for a review into the new on street town centre parking system following hoardes of complaints from traders and shoppers to the constituency office.

Under the new regulations, motorists were forced to register on the RingGo ap and register their stay when they want to park on town centre streets. The time limit for free parking was also reduced from an hour to just 30 minutes.

Angela said: “Local businesses say their trade has been hit hard in the months since this new system was introduced and they are very concerned for the future. Urgent action is needed to rectify the situation before we lose footfall to neighbouring town centres that don’t have this hugely unpopular system in place.

“It’s brilliant that people can park for three hours for £1 and all day for £2 on our town centre car parks but the on street situation is causing misery and mayhem for traders and shoppers alike.

“I am urging you to formally review the new system and reinstate free on street parking for an hour with immediate effect.

“If you listen to what the traders and shoppers are saying, they want free on street parking for an hour to be reinstated, the RingGo system to be removed and cash meters installed in street parking areas.

“I have listened to their concerns and I support them in their call for action to rectify the situation.”
