Local veterans enjoyed an afternoon of fun in the sun as they joined Angela to celebrate Armed Forces Day.

Guests were invited to Ashton Market for sandwiches and cakes as well as performances from singer Jo Farrow, trumpet player George Mathieson and choirs from Waterloo Primary and Rosehill Primary Schools.

The Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Leigh Drennan, and his consort Cory James also joined the celebrations as well as local councillors.

The event followed Angela’s visit to Ashton Police Station for the Armed Forces flag raising ceremony.

She said: “We are very proud of our Armed Forces members and our veterans. Armed Forces Day gives us a fantastic opportunity to show our support for the brave men and women who give so much. It was wonderful to spend time with serving forces members and veterans and hear their stories and memories. All our performers were wonderful and the lovely weather made the event even more special.”
