Labour’s Hurst group have kept a close eye on proposals to build 132 homes on the former Harstshead School site on Greenhurst Road since the planning application was submitted last year.

Angela said: “From the very start, myself and Councillors Leigh Drennan, Mike Glover and Dolores Lewis, made our demands clear – PROTECT OUR GREEN SPACES. We understand the need for new homes, but our children need safe places to play. It’s vital that members of the community have the ability to walk their dog and enjoy recreational facilities.”

The council have now agreed the land sale to Taylor Wimpey with several important conditions attached:-

  • 15% of the development should be affordable housing
  • Money will be handed over from the developer towards green space provision in the ward

Taylor Wimpey must now submit a detailed plan to the council and the Hurst Labour Group will be there at every stage to make sure promises are kept.
