Angela has sent her warmest congratulations to Labour candidates who were successfully re-elected at the 2022 local elections.

In Tameside, there was success for Barrie Holland (Droylsden West), Susan Quinn (Droylsden East), Vimal Choksi (Waterloo), Bill Fairfoull (St Michael’s) and Joyce Bowerman (St Peters).

Angela said: “I would like to pay tribute to the returning councillors and thank them for their incredible work, not just in the run up to the elections, but all year round. They really are wonderful ambassadors for the Labour Party and I look forward to working with them to make our communities the very best they can be.”

Dolores Lewis sadly lost her seat in Hurst ward by just 27 votes. Angela said: “Dolores was a fabulous local councillor and really cared about the residents she served. She will be sadly missed but I am sure this is not the last we will see of her.”

In Failsworth, longstanding Labour Councillor Pete Davis sadly lost his seat in Failsworth West and Labour candidate Marzia Babakarkhail was not successful in Failsworth East.

Angela said: “Pete was a brilliant local councillor and did so much to support local foodbank Breaking the Waves. He also volunteers with Oldham Street Angels to protect some of our most vulnerable citizens. I am sure that he will continue to be a strong local support for those in need.

“Marzia put her all into campaigning to win a seat in the ward she lives in and I am so proud of her efforts. We have not seen the last of this incredible lady.”
