Angela was honoured to present Manhar Taylor with his Points of Light certificate. Points of Light is a daily honour bestowed by the Prime Minister on a person who has gone above and beyond to serve their community.

Manhar, a retired nurse, has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity thanks to daring feats including a 440km cycle and retracing Mahatma Gandhi’s famous Salt March.

During lockdown, Manhar delivered over 10,000 home-cooked meals to vulnerable and isolated members of the community who were unable to come together at the temple whilst restrictions were in place.

Angela said: “I am so proud of Manhar and I find his dedication to helping others so inspiring. He finds it difficult to accept praise but he thoroughly deserves to see his efforts recognised so I am delighted he was given the Points of Light award.”

Angela was invited to meet young people who are taking part in the National Citizen Service programme at Moravian College in Droylsden.

They told her all about the course and I was particularly keen to hear about their experiences volunteering with local charities and community groups.
