Friday is constituency day for Angela and she always packs as many local visits in as possible.

This week started with a sneak peek at a brand new, 12 studio NHS dental surgery in Ashton town centre. SimplyOne Dental, which is due to open to patients next April, is run by four partners who own seven NHS dental practices across Greater Manchester.

Next up was a visit to Failsworth for the ground breaking ceremony at Sydney Grange.

The three-story retirement blocks are named in honour of Mr Ernest Sydney, who was managing director of Failsworth Hats.

Located on Ashton Road West, the McCarthy Stone development will boast a collection of low-maintenance, energy efficient and affordable privately owned apartments, designed to support over-60s to make the most of their retirement years.

Mr Sydney, who founded the business in 1903, became a well-known figure after setting up Failsworth Trust, care for employees of Failsworth Hats – a designer hat brand that is still selling stylish headwear to this day.

Angela finished off with a shift with local police in the town centre as part of Operation Sceptre which was launched in July 2015 by the Metropolitan Police with the aim of reducing knife crime and the number of families affected across the whole of London.

The launch coincided with new legislation that meant those convicted of carrying a knife for the second time will face a mandatory custodial sentence. There have been several weeks of action in an attempt to counter a nationwide rise in knife crime.
