Angela meets members of Tameside's Hindu community

Angela hosted a question and answer session with members of Tameside’s Hindu community following her recent visit to Gujarat.

The event, at Shree Bharatiya Mandal on Union Road, was also attended by Stockport MP Navendu Mishra and Waterloo ward Councillor Vimal Choksi who both accompanied Angela on the overseas trip.

During the trip – which is the first time a Deputy Leader of the Labour Party has met with the Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel – Angela also spent time in New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, engaging with faith groups, businesses and political leaders.

In New Delhi, Angela spoke at the annual Raisina Dialogue conference where she shared the stage with India’s cabinet minister Mrs Smriti Irani and other eminent female speakers from around the world on the topic of female empowerment.

Attendees at the Tameside event were able to ask Angela about her trip as well as discussing local issues such as education, Hindu cremation and MP’s casework.

Angela said: “Britain benefits from almost 1.8 million people of Indian heritage who make an enormous contribution in a range of fields including our NHS, business and community.

“It was fantastic to meet with members of Tameside’s Hindu community to discuss the issues they care about.”
