Angela spent time with council candidates from across her constituency ahead of the Local and Mayoral Elections 2024.

She said: “I must start by congratulating my good friend Andy Burnham on his resounding success in being re-elected as Mayor of Greater Manchester. Andy secured 63.4% of the vote across the ten districts which is testament to his hard work and dedication to the people he is so proud to serve.

“You can’t have failed to notice the bright yellow Bee Network buses we now see driving around Tameside with fares capped at £2 to make public transport accessible for all.

“Andy has also pledged to build new council houses in all 10 districts and introduce a Good Landlord Charter. These are things that will transform the city region and make a real difference to people’s lives.”

There were also Local Elections to decide the make up of Tameside Council with a third of seats up for grabs.

Angela said: “I was delighted to see Labour Councillors within my constituency returned and my congratulations go to Mohammed Karim in Hurst, Sangita Patel in Waterloo, Barrie Holland in Droylsden West, Laura Boyle in Droylsden East, Naila Sharif in Dukinfield, Teresa Smith in Audenshaw and Jean Drennan in St Michael’s. You all work so hard to serve the people you represent so it was great to see you secure victory once again.”

In St Peters ward, long serving Councillor David McNally lost his seat to an Independent candidate.

Angela said: “I would like to pay tribute to my good friend David who sadly lost his seat in St Peters ward after 13 years of service. I know how much David cherished his role as a local councillor and it’s hugely disappointing to lose him and his expertise, but I know he will come back stronger. I would like to place on record my heartfelt thanks for his years of service and commitment.”
