Angela paid a visit to Haven House, a supported housing scheme in Ashton, to meet some of its residents and hear more about the help and support they receive.

Haven House, on Vernon Street, was opened in March 2023 by local housing provider Jigsaw Homes Group with funding from the Government’s Rough Sleeping Accommodation Programme. It provides 23 self-contained apartments and support for people who have experienced homelessness.

Angela was welcomed by Jigsaw’s Chief Executive Brian Moran and other Jigsaw staff before touring the building and chatting to residents.

She said: “It was great to see and hear first-hand, about the support that is available to help people lead independent and fulfilling live and see the life-changing impact that supported accommodation provides.”

Resident Jack said: “When I first came here, I needed support with a lot of things, but I feel as if I have grown in confidence and don’t need as much now. I have a lot of family and friends who are local and visit a lot so that has helped me as well.

“Supported housing really works for people like me, especially the keyworkers and how much they care, helping me overcome some of the issues that I have experienced. I’ll be moving on soon and am ready to stay here in Ashton, as I really feel part of the community.”

Jigsaw CEO Brian Moran said: “We are extremely proud to be able to provide high-quality accommodation with support. We work with residents to develop their skills around budgeting, home maintenance, wellbeing and life skills, meaning they are in a better position to move on to a permanent tenancy.  This is a real chance for the residents to make important changes in their lives and move away from homelessness for good.”
