Angela has paid tribute to all Labour candidates who stood in the Local Elections 2026 across Ashton, Audenshaw, Droylsden and Dukinfield.
Longstanding Councillors John Taylor (Dukinfield), Susan Quinn (Droylsden East) and Bill Fairfoull (St Michael’s) lost their seats.
Nick Axford lost his seat in Audenshaw after three years of service to the ward.
Rebecca Callaghan stood for the first time in Droylsden West.
Noreen Shahzad stood for the first time in Hurst ward.
Muhammad Tahir stood for the first time in Waterloo ward.
Atta Ul-Rasool won his seat in St Peters ward.
Angela said: “Huge congratulations to Atta. His win was the result of months of extremely hard work and effort. I know he will be a great Councillor for St Peters – the ward where he lives with his family.
“I would like to pay tribute to the longstanding councillors who lost their seat. The result is by no means a reflection on them and they will be very sadly missed within the communities they were so proud to serve.
“Thank you to those who put themselves forward to stand for Labour for the first time. The result may not have been what you wanted but you fought brilliant campaigns and this will not be the last we see of you!
“Going forwards, we must make politics work for ordinary people which means putting the common interest ahead of factionalism.
“Policy tweaks will not fix the fundamental challenges facing our country. Labour exists to make working people better off. That is not happening fast enough, and it needs to change — now.”
